Mallotus japonicus (L.f.) Müll.Arg. Euphorbiaceae
This deciduous high tree is dioecious. The flowering period in Japan is June to July. It is found in the sunny mountains and fields of the main islands of Shikoku and Kyusyu, the Korean Peninsula, and south China. The height is about 5 meters. The tree grows rapidly. So this species is a pioneer plant. The young shoots are red-colored in spring. The adult shoots become green. The large leaves can be used as dishes.
