Dioscorea Rhizome is the rhizome (rhizophore) of Dioscorea japonica Thunberg or Dioscorea batatas Decaisne (Dioscoreaceae), from which the periderm has been removed.
Dioscorea Rhizomecontains diosgenin as an ingredient and is said to have a tonic effect. The original plants, yam and dioscorea, are familiar ingredients in yam strips and Mugitoro rice. The edible part is also used as a crude drug.
'Mugitro rice' is barley mixed rice with grated Japanese yam.
