Rhubarb is usually the rhizome of Rheum palmatum Linneá , Rheum tanguticum Maximowicz, Rheum officinale Baillon, Rheum coreanum Nakai or their interspecific hybrids (Polygonaceae).
Rhubarb contains sennoside as an ingredient and is said to have laxative and anti-blood stasis effects.
Rhubarb with Kinmon is considered of high quality. Kinmon is a radial pattern on the rhizome, which resembles the pattern of traditional Japanese textiles.
