Moutan Bark is the root bark of Paeonia suffruticosa Andrews (Paeonia moutan Sims) (Paeoniaceae).
Moutan Bark contains peonol as an ingredient and is said to have antibacterial and anti-blood stasis effects. Moutan peony is similar to peony, but peony and moutan peony are herbaceous and woody plants, respectively. There is a woody core in the root of the moutan peony, and the one without the core is the crude drug moutan bark.
